Use with care
Essential oils are highly concentrated botanical extracts. To ensure safe and effective use, follow these essential aromatherapy safety practices.
Always Dilute Before Topical Use
Essential oils must always be diluted with a carrier oil before applying to the skin. Undiluted use may cause irritation, sensitisation, or long-term skin reactions — even with gentle oils like lavender.
- Adults: 1–2% for daily use
- Sensitive skin: 0.5–1%
Patch Test is Essential
Before using any new essential oil, perform a patch test.
Apply a diluted blend to the inner forearm and wait 24 hours.
This helps identify potential allergic reactions or sensitivity.
Never skip this step — especially if you have sensitive or reactive skin.
Pregnancy & Nursing Precautions
Certain essential oils are not safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Avoid oils such as rosemary, clary sage, and peppermint — particularly during early pregnancy.
Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before incorporating essential oils into your routine.
Safe Use for Children & Infants
Use extra caution when using essential oils for children.
- Recommended dilution: 0.5–1% (for children above 2 years)
- Avoid using strong oils like peppermint and eucalyptus near infants
These oils contain compounds (menthol, cineole) that may affect breathing in young children.
Photosensitivity Warning (Citrus Oils)
Citrus essential oils such as sweet orange, lemon, and bergamot can increase skin sensitivity to sunlight.
After topical application, avoid direct sun exposure for at least 12–24 hours to prevent skin irritation, pigmentation, or burns.
